Today it has revoked the first prize in the XIII International Humanitarian Photography Award Luis Valtuena for alleged manipulation of the image by the photographer Francesco Cocco. Specifically for violating Section 4 of the rules of the call that said "[...] The original structure of the digital image can only be altered by darkroom techniques such as adjusting brightness, contrast and color, overexposure and burning. Not allowed any other change in the original digital image [...]. "
In the picture we see two characters on the right which, coincidentally, has the same wrinkles and shadows on his clothing. For several days we have witnessed heated discussions on various internet sites about the authenticity of the image (one Paco Elvira's blog) where supporters and opponents of the image they gave their opinion.

Since the advent of digital technology we are living in the continuing debate on where the boundary between what can be changed in an image and what is not. No doubt in advertising photography can do what you want. It also assumes that the images of celebrities in gossip magazines are thoroughly massaged to give a more youthful and attractive, but lately is creating a trend of articles in leading journals in the world where not used or makeup or programs like Adobe Photoshop to touch up the image.

The problem comes when readers begin to assume that the documentary reportage images and press information is also retouched. At this point we face a serious problem. In college, in 1997, when photoshop was moving from version 2.5, a teacher (sorry do not remember who it was) stressed the importance of not modify an image beyond what was possible in the analog process, ie the laboratory. His argument was that the text could be invented, but photography also stated that he had been in place and that what appeared in the image was true. At stake is the credibility of our profession and work of all pampered and respect this credibility. I'm tired of answering every time I do a portrait ... `No ma'am, I can not fix the wrinkles with Photoshop, because press was not allowed to change our reality. But do not worry that you will very pretty .Know the motives behind a photographer to modify an image (I acknowledge that I retouched images to remove dust from the sensor, knowing that the method was not right, but understanding that this in analogue photography did not go ...) but I can not come to understand is that a photographer who has touched up an image is able to send a photo contest.

No never will understand what is that made retouch the image, not to be imperceptible touch.
More and more competitions are beginning to require the image in RAW format (in a nutshell is the information you have caught the camera sensor at the time of the photo). RAW Perhaps now is a test of veracity, but I have my suspicions that a program could generate a RAW. Best of luck at being a good photographer.

Photography is my hobby, so i am trying to share useful information with you about photography.
